ABOUT PEPTIDES

Peptides are short chains of amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Proteins contain hundreds of amino acids. Peptides contain 2-100 amino acids.

Insulin is a peptide. So is Ozempic.

Different peptides have different effects. Insulin and Ozempic both act like hormones.

DSIP (Delta Sleep Inducing Peptide) is found naturally inside the brain. It limits stress, normalizes blood pressure, alters sleep patterns, and alters stress response. It is currently being investigated for depression and cancer treatment.

MOTS-c (Mitochondrial Open Reading Frame of the 12S rRNA-c) is found inside human mitochondria. You might remember mitochondria from high school biology class, where we called it the powerhouse of the cell. Mitochondria produce our energy. MOTS-c is being researched to aid in metabolic diseases, obesity, and osteoporosis. Because of Alzheimer’s Disease relationship with blood sugars and insulin resistance, MOTS-c is being investigated as a potential treatment.

Peptides do numerous activities inside the body. Researchers are only beginning to fully understand all that peptides do.

Many peptides are not fully approved by the FDA. Research remains ongoing.
